Weiberfastnacht 2011

Weiberfastnacht Extraordinaire by Hans Wolf

What a difference a day (youth) makes by creating a new festival, retaining old traditions and creating a new entertaining event. Should be a wake-up call to all=unwilling to change.

Kudos to Christel Valentine and the Prinzengarde for believing they could pull it off… even moving the event from our Klubhaus to the DANK Haus.

250 showed up to make this the most successful Weiberfastnacht in my 10 years with the club.

Myself, a guardian of traditions, watched the careful infusion of fresh entertainment with the old; tie-cutting, gender change, weiber dominating traditions… oh yes, we had some good ones as the picture proves.

There was a strong presence of the Kinderchor, American Aid Society, DANK Chicago (our host) and ”Erika Lisauskas”, our singing sensation that created a buzz of excitement.

Top that off with our Fanfaren Drum + Bugle corps and the Amazonen dancers which made this a refurbished Rheinischer Verein event.

The DANK Haus venue was perfect. You could tell the few locals from the neighborhood that had come to party with ‘us’. This event will sell itself to German-American community searching for their roots.

I can’t wait for next year’s Weiberfastnacht.

Hans Wolf P.R.

P.S. Thank you Henrietta Baltes for keeping Weiberfastnacht on life support.
