150 Members of The Rheinischer Verein Travel to Germany to Take Part in  Mainz and Loerzweiler Karneval Festivities.

Below are pictures of a momentous trip in our Karneval club's history. We return to the heart of the Karneval in Mainz Germany as guests of the Loerzweiler Karneval Club. This trip epitomizes the potential and fun that our club has to offer. This was truly a cultural eye-opener for anyone who had not experienced German Karneval, as well as great fun that everyone will remember for a lifetime. The Rheinischer Verein had a float in the prestigious Mainz parade and marched in Loerzweiler's parade as well. The trip showed the true spirit and camaraderie of our club as we were able to participate in such great numbers on this very special trip. Below are some pictures of the trip. More will be added as they become available to us. Anyone in the Chicago area that is interested in German culture or their German/American heritage join the Rheinischer Verein to take part in the fun and experience of German culture in America.

Our Departure - O'hare Flight 944

As we get ready to Depart O'hare the Himmel's, our Prince Wilfried and the Schulter's gather around a sign from Gene Schulter's decisive victory just a day earlier for Alderman of the 47th ward (The greatest ward) in Chicago.

Our Arrival

We Arrive at the airport ready to sing, dance and enjoy the Karneval.

Raise your Glass! Our Warm Karneval Reception at the Turn Verein Hall in Mainz as Guests of the Loerzweiler Karneval Club. Drinks, dancing and good times were to follow.

Many a Glass was lifted during our unbelievably warm reception from the Loerzweiler Karneval Club at the Mainz Turn Verein hall. An excellent meal, great entertainment provided by the Loerzweiler Karnevalisten as well as warm hospitality, and cold bitburger was on the menu for that night. Our president Helmut Mueller even joined in the entertainment as a dancing bee.

Even with the hectic partying schedule of Karneval there was still time to see some of the beautiful Rheinland

During the trip there was time for groups to break off and see the beautiful Rheinland of Germany, or just recover from the previous evenings activities or sit back and enjoy a Pils.

The Maskenball in Loerzweiler. The "Indian's" from Chicago take second place!

There were many great costumes and great times at the Loerzweiler Maskenball. A incorrigible contingent from Chicago took second prize in the group costume. However we were outfaced by the excellent Giraffe costumes that some locals from Loerzweiler designed.

Rosenmontag! The Height of Karneval

Many in the club participated in the Mainz parade on Rosenmontag. Over 400,000people lined the streets to see the best Karneval parade in Germany.  It was with extreme honor and joy that we were able to be a part of it. The Rheinischer's own Fanfaren Corps were a big hit wherever they went on this trip. One can not describe how warm the welcome our Chicago group was extended by the people of Mainz.

The Night of Rosenmontag was non-stop partying for all.

Alas, the End of Karneval - The Lumpen (Hobo) ball. This celebration is where the Karneval is buried until next year. The old prince is brought out on stretcher and buried until next year when the new prince takes over and the Karneval starts once again on November 11th at 11:11am

Alas, the Karneval is dead, Until next year...
